"And the angel said to them, fear not, for behold, I bring good tidings of great joy that will be for all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savoir, who is Christ the Lord."
Luke 2:10-11
I feel as though Mary and Joseph have a real and inspiring story of faith when it comes to their journey to Bethlehem. First of all, Mary was a fairly young woman and her and Joseph weren't even married yet when the angel told her that she was pregnant. Second, they had to travel a amazingly long distance to get back to Joseph's hometown, and all they had to travel on was a camel. But yet, they kept on going because that is what the dream was that God put in their hearts. And once they probably thought that things couldn't get any harder, despite all of the rain and weather they had to endure, once they actually got to Bethlehem there was no room in any of the inns for Mary to give birth, so, as the story goes, Mary gave birth to Jesus in a stable among all of the hay and animals. You would have thought that all of the forces were against Mary and Joseph, right? How did they manage to get through it all and overcome all of those obstacles? It was because they had faith. When Mary was told she was pregnant, sure, she was afraid, but she had faith that what God wanted her to do was the right thing, and they took that faith all the way to Bethlehem to give birth to Jesus.
So many times I feel like we give up when things get hard and when we get afraid when actually, we should take on Mary and Joseph's attitude. We need to have faith that God knows where we are supposed to go and we need to follow the plan that he puts in our hearts, and with that faith, we can overcome our fear and continue on the path that God leads us down, no matter how rough it might get.
Merry Christmas Eve everyone!
