"It is not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving." Mother Teresa
Christmas is around the corner, and with it comes the spirit of giving. This concept of giving things to others, especially around this time of year when you have so much on your plate, may seem difficult to you. Maybe you just reject the idea of giving because you feel like you have nothing to give. A story that always comes to my mind when it comes to this is the story of the little drummer boy. This story tells about how this little boy heard of the news that Jesus was born, he heard of the kings bringing Him gold. frankincense, and myrrh and thought that he should bring something to give as well. You see, this boy didn't have anything, he worked in the fields and all that he has was a small drum. So, questioning whether this would make his newborn Savior happy or not, he took his little drum and went to play for Jesus. Once he got there, he played a song on his drum for Jesus and, as the story says, Jesus smiled at him. It didn't discourage him that these kings had brought Jesus these very expensive gifts, no, he still played his drum with confidence, and he played it with love. This is a great example of what I am trying to get across to you today. You may not have much, but you can give what you know that you do have. You can give a smile, a kind word or action, a cheerful hello or merry Christmas. You don't have to give some big and fancy gift, but if you can give a gift with confidence and show love as you give it, that is all that matters. That right there, is the spirit of giving.
