"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 3:34-35
You are loved. Such a bold statement using only three words. We have talked previously about how powerful God's love for us is, and there is an infinite amount of ways that He shows it, but the question that I want to ask you today is this, what about us? God's love for us is making such a big impact on our lives, but what about our love for others? Are we showing God's love for us through loving others? To know a bit more, let's get into this verse a little bit deeper.
One of the first things that it says in this verse is that we are to love others, not because we have to, not only because they are family or friends, but because God loved us first. He loved us and continues to love us so much that it is truly inexplicable. So, in this, God is telling us to love others as He has first loved us. He wants us to go out in the world and not judge a person by their clothes, or judge them by the way they talk or think, but love them. He does not want us to hold a grudge towards another or stay mad at them about something they did, but He wants us to rise above all of that and love them.
I know, sometimes this can be hard to do, but take a look as the verse goes on. It comes to an end by saying that if we love others like God loved us first, then others, the ones that we show the love to or even the ones just witnessing you showing this love, they will see God through the love that you are showing. They will see that you have something about you that maybe, they don't have, and that thing that you have, is God's love. God's unfailing, never ending, and non-judgmental love that you have inside of you is now coming out and being shown to others. So let today be the day you begin to show this wonderful kind of love to others, and when you do, they will see God's love through you.
