"It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy." Unknown
Maybe today you are looking around thinking to yourself that, once you get this then you will be happy, once you get that thing that they have, then you be able to appreciate your life. Well, if you find yourself saying either of these things today, I need you to stop right there.
Listen, when we compare ourselves to others, when we look at them and analyze what they have and what we don't, that is when our souls begin to get bombarded with guilt, with shame, and with disappointment. You see, when we are saying that we will not be happy until we get something, that, my friend, is not at all when you will be happy. When we say that once we get that something, that is when we will be appreciating our lives more, that is when we are not appreciating our lives in the present. But, the question that I want you to answer is this; why aren't you appreciating your life now?
So many people think that those people that are happy are the people that must have all the money that they need, they must have a big house, a fantastic job, and everything that they could possibly ever want. If this is what you are thinking, than you, my friend, are mistaken. You see, as the quote above says, "It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy." Those happy people that you are looking at, the ones that you are assuming are happy because they have everything that you don't, they are really happy because, even if they don't have everything that they want, they appreciate what they do have. They don't compare themselves to others, but rather, they enjoy the gifts that God has blessed them with, they rejoice in them, and that, that is why they are happy.
So the question that I want to leave you with today is this; are you going to go out and start believing that you don't have to be happy to be thankful, but that you have to be thankful to be happy?
