"Yet I want your will to be done, not mine." Matthew 26:39
We all face disappointments. Unfortunately, that is just part of life. But how do we deal with these disappointments and the sadness that comes along with them?
Well, I am sorry to tell you, but disappointments are inevitable. We will face them in life, and when we do, it is completely natural human instinct to feel upset, to feel sad, and even feel frustrated. But it is how we deal with that sadness and how we deal with that frustration, that really matters. You see, when many people are let down by a situation, they tend to get frustrated, or even angry, with God. They are asking where He is and why He let this happen. Maybe that is you today, and if it is, I want to tell you something. God is not trying to make your life more difficult. He is not just throwing this disappointment in your path just for fun, but He has a reason. Whatever it was back there, whatever you are disappointed by not getting or being able to do, you have to know that whatever it was, it just wasn't meant to be. God has reason behind everything that happens or doesn't happen to us, and even though we might not be able to see that reason, we have to trust that God does.
Now, I know this can be a tough thing to do, but we have to know, we have to trust, and we have to take heart in the fact that, as Matthew 26:39 says, "Yet I want your will to be done, not mine." God's will for our lives far exceeds any of the plans that we could ever make, and for His will to succeed and come through, we need to let go of the reigns. We need to stop trying to make our will be done, but rather, we need to let God's will be done.
