"To pray is to let go and let God take over." Philippians 4:6-7
What does it mean to pray? Yes, it is our one-on-one conversation time with God, but it is also something more than that. Praying is surrendering. I mean, think about it; When you pray up to God and ask Him to do something in our lives, we are taking that situation and putting it in His hands. But you see, even though this is how prayer works, so many people are still trying to control their situations and their prayers themselves, and aren't letting God take hold of them.
You see, having control is a comfort for all human beings. We all want to know and plan what is going to happen where and when. But that's not how God works. Now see, many people take time out of their day to pray, they pray about certain situations, decisions, difficulties, and obstacles, but when that time is over, they go out and try to control the situation once again. They stress out when it doesn't go the way they want it to and they try to figure out what the future holds, but they have it all wrong! When we pray about something, we send that request up to God. That's it. There it goes, up to heaven, where God, not you, but God, is going to take care of it. When we pray we have to surrender ourselves, we have to to actually take what we are praying for and let go of it, let God have it, and give Him control. Yes, we still have to do our part, but part of what we have to do is hand the reigns over! You don't have control, God does, and when you realize that, and when you surrender yourself in prayer and actually send your prayers up to heaven, letting go of them, you are going to feel so much weight lifted off of your shoulders and you are going to start living the type of life that God has for you.
