"Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which, if you sit down quietly, may alight upon you." Nathaniel Hawthorne
Are you feeling happy? It is a simple question, but one that is so complex at the same time, and it is one that I want you to answer. Are you feeling happy? If you are, then that's great, but if you aren't, it's not that you don't want to be, but rather, it seems as though you aren't able to be, right? Well today, my friend, today you are going to get that happiness back.
So how to you suppose that we get that happiness back? It is not something that we read, say, or do, but rather, it is something that we don't do. You see, as the quote above from Nathaniel Hawthorne says, happiness is like a butterfly, and we are the ones chasing it down. But see, if you have ever tried to chase a butterfly, then you would know this to be true, that if you run after it and pursue it, it is only going to keep flying away and remain "beyond our grasp," as Hawthorne put it.
So what is it that this means for us? Well, let me tell you that this means that you just need to stop. Stop running, stop searching, stop chasing after that happiness, and just sit down. Yes, sit down; and do so quietly; because when you are still, when you quit the pursuit of that butterfly, that is when the butterfly comes to you. That is when the butterfly, or the happiness that you are looking for, in this sense, comes and lands right upon you.
So today, I want you top stop chasing that happiness, an just "just sit down quietly." For when you do, your vision will not be clouded by the stressful reality that is passing you by as you go, but you will be surrounded by all of the amazing blessings that God has given you. So, while you are sitting quietly, look around, and notice all of the reasons that you have to be happy, and let your butterfly land upon you.
