Have A Spirit Of Power, Love, And A Sound Mind

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
2 Timothy 1:7

Maybe in your life today, you are facing an obstacle. Something that you feel like is impossible to get over. Maybe you are trying to discover your purpose, maybe you are trying to fulfill a dream, or maybe you are just afraid of whatever it is that the future holds for you. If any of these apply to, then I pray that you are encouraged by these words today.
Now, in 2 Timothy 1:7, I want to take you through and look at each of these individual parts that it offers us to take heart in when we are afraid. It first of all tells us that, "God has not given us a spirit of fear." See, this fear that we have within us, God did not give it to us. We put it there ourselves. He wouldn't ever want us to be afraid, especially of the future that He has put in front of us, so the first step to ridding ourselves of this fear, is to know that it isn't God's.
Next, this verse states that, rather than giving us a spirit of fear, God has given us that of "power." Now, what does that mean by power? And why would we need it in facing our fears? Well, you see, when we look at a situation, especially one that we are afraid of, we need to tap into that spirit of power that God has put within us. Just take a minute to think about that, God has put a strong power, His power, within us, so that we are able to face those obstacles and overcome them. So we need to tap into that spirit, and face them.
The third point that this verse makes, is that God has given us spirit "of love." He has given us His love, is relentless, unfailing, unconditional love that, no matter what our future holds for us, will always remain constant; and He wants to reassure us of that fact and He wants us to remember that His love is a strong and powerful love, and that it can do so many great and powerful things.
Lastly, the verse tells us that God gives us a spirit "of a sound mind." See, like I said before, God does not put this fear within us, but we do that, and during these times of fear, God is showing us what it is that He has, in fact, given us so that we are able to conquer this fear, and have a sound mind in knowing that we don't have to be afraid, that He has our future, our dreams, and everything else, including you, in the palm of His hand. So rest easy, do not be afraid, and just conquer and walk into the future, just like God has created you, and given you the spirit, to do.
