"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
Proverbs 3:5-6 is a verse that I am sure almost all of you have heard, but have you ever dug deep into it to find out what it is actually saying? Well that is what I want to do today. I want to take this verse, piece by piece, and look to see what it is that God is wanting us to hear.
Now, the first part of this verse says, "trust in the Lord with all your heart." I love this part, because as God's children, of course we trust in the Lord, but do we do so with all of our heart? You see, I think that it is so often the case that we trust God with some of the things in our life, thinking that we can take care of the others, for we know how we want them to turn out. But see, this is not trusting God with "all of your heart," it's trusting Him with some of it, and when we do this, we are unable to see His plans fully come to pass in our lives. So today, put all of your trust in Him, and just trust Him with all of your heart.
The next part here says to "not lean on your own understanding." See, I think that so many times in our lives when we don't understand what is happening, we get mad, we get upset, and discouraged. But my friend, the only one that is going understand all that we go through is God, and He is going to make sure to give it a good reason, even if you are unable to see that. I heard someone say once that we may never understand why we went through something until we are up in Heaven with God and we look back on our lives. So just trust that He knows what He's doing, and rest in the fact that you don't have to understand it, for God is going to work it all out in your favor.
The verse then goes on to say, "in all your ways submit to Him." Now, what does this mean? The definition of submit is to "accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another person." See, when it says this, what it is saying is that we need to accept His will for our lives. We need to pray that God's will is done in all that we do, and when we give Him that, He is going to have the room to do amazing things, my friend.
And lastly, the verse says that, when you do these things, "He will make your paths straight." He will guide you and direct you to where it is that He has you to be in your life. His will will be done and you are going to see Him take you places that you would have never thought you could go. So today, follow the advice that this verse gives you, and watch God begin to work in your life in new and amazing ways.
