In our lives, I think that one of the most common times that we feel distant or estranged from Jesus is when there's something bad going on in our lives. We get mad or discouraged and ask why it is that our loving Father would allow this to happen to us. See, I think that this is a big challenge that each and every one of us face in our walk of faith. But what we so often forget is that we were promised in the Bible that bad things would happen. It specifically states that "in this world we will have trouble." But we get so consumed with what is going on around us that we forget to realize what Jesus has told us after this point.
See, Jesus said that we would have trouble. He didn't say that bad things wouldn't happen, He didn't say that just because we have Him in our lives all would go easily and smoothly, but He did say that in this world we would have trouble, and in the midst of that trouble, He encourages us to take heart, to keep our spirits high, and to rest in the peace and the joy that He has waiting for us. You see, in the midst of hard situations, we need to not focus on the fact of what is going on around us, but instead we need to know that our Father, the one who is ultimately in control of this entire situation, has overcome the world! Jesus literally faced the worst possible situation that could arise, He was tortured and killed, but He is so powerful, He is so strong, our Father that is with us, is so amazing, that He defeated it! Not only that, but He overcame it! So what makes you think that He couldn't do that for you? That is what the Bible is telling us here; that bad things will happen in our lives, but our Father that is in charge of it all has overcome the world, and won't do any different for you, His child. So today, just rest in the peace and comfort that your Father is offering you; take your focus off of the situation around you and fix it on the one that is going to bring you through it.
