Take Up Your Cross

"Take up your cross and follow me." Luke 9:23

"Take up your cross." What does that mean exactly? Well, clearly it doesn't mean to take up and carry an actual cross as Jesus did, but actually, it is saying that we do, in fact, need to do what Jesus did on that cross to live a life that truly follows Him. We need to sacrifice.
Now, Jesus died up there on the cross so that we could live for Him, and to do that, we need to make a few sacrifices ourselves. But here's the problem, in today's culture, in today's society, people are so busy all the time that they don't have time to sacrifice, they don't have time to just take a few minutes in prayer, they don't have time to just be still and listen to what God is telling them, they are not truly taking up their cross. Maybe this is you today, maybe you are so busy that you don't have time to be making any sacrifices. But listen here, sacrificing for God does not have to take an hour or two out of your day, but maybe just five or ten minutes. See, sacrifice means giving up something for someone else. Maybe give up that time you spend looking at your phone, maybe turn your music off and put your phone down on your way to work, or maybe on your break, take a few minutes to yourself and sacrifice that time for God, make those times your prayer time, give God that time for just you and Him to talk and listen. When you start doing this, when you start taking the biggest step towards following Him, you are going to be so surprised as to how your life is going to change.
